What Inspires Us? – How Do We Find It?

What Inspires Us?

We all have things that inspire us, make us want to do better, and make us feel excited about a certain outcome or end result. In this article, I want to talk to you about what inspires us and how to find inspiration within us.

What Does Inspiration Mean?

The process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative. Something that makes someone want to do something or that gives someone an idea about what to do or create.

How Does Inspiration Work?

Inspiration occurs when the mind is disengaged from logic. Inspiration is always there but isn’t always accessible to the conscious mind.

“Low self-esteem is like driving through life with the handbrake on.”-
Maxwell Maltz

Inspiration takes the handbrake off and allows for more freedom in life. With freedom comes the sense of who you really are. As a result comes your willingness to learn, grow, and pursue your passions.

It isn’t easy to believe in yourself if there is very little inspiration in life. We have more energy and vitality when we stop disowning what matters to us.

How Important is Inspiration?

Inspiration is an awakening to something new, better, and more relevant. An actual changing of your mind from your previous concerns. Inspiration is the launchpad for creativity. Inspiration is a necessity to get ahead in life and grow.

Thomas Edison once said, “Genius is one part inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.” And while there’s no discounting the tremendous value of the latter, the former is what sets the wheels in motion.

How to Be Inspired With Writing

This is something the writer knows too well. We have the tremendous desire to write about something but lack the inspiration to get started or keep going. So how do you and I battle the lack of creative motivation?

Simply waiting around until inspiration comes is not an option. But forcing yourself to write just to get something written down isn’t an option either. We are left with no choice but to seek out inspiration for ourselves.

How to Become and Stay Inspired as a Writer

1. Accumulate Experience

It’s hard to write something that’s truly good and connect with your readers if you have no experience. The main thing that makes your writing good is actually doing it. The old saying, “practice makes perfect” is actually true in this case.

Writing and inspiration are team players. The more you write the more inspired you get, the more inspired you get the more you write, the more you write the better you’ll get. This will create success through publication or recognition and in turn, create more inspiration to write.

2. Read and Read Some More

The importance of reading can’t be overlooked. Your writing will always be better because of what you’ve read and learned. Read everything you can and read often. Reading is crucial when you are lacking inspiration.

Reading will remind you why you want to write in the first place. Use other’s content as a source of your inspiration. Your hand automatically reaches for your phone during lunch or before bedtime. Use that time to read instead. You’ll be thankful you did.

3. Be Part of a Writing Community

Writing can get kind of lonely sometimes. You spend a great deal of time inside your own head. Sometimes this leads to frustration, isolation, and a lack of inspiration.

Get back into the real world and connect with like-minded people in the writing community. There is no better way to reaffirm and refresh yourself than to connect with people just as passionate as you are.

4. Keep Your Perspective

Whether you want to write a short story or a full novel the questions will always present themselves. Where do I start? How can I ever finish? Always remember you are never alone.

Think in terms of the big picture. All of us who write have been in the same boat and the only way you can ever fail is to not start at all. Just take your writing one word at a time and you’ll get there before you know it.

5. See Yourself as a Writer

Know how to play to your strengths. You’ll do the best work possible and vanquish your insecurities and doubt in the process. Never let pessimism consume you.

Focus on what you do best and your passion and you’ll always find the motivation and inspiration you need.

6. Focus On Writing First Then Editing

This is one of my major problems. I make a mistake and I want to correct it right away. I guess I’m a bit of a perfectionist at heart. But doing this will break your concentration on what you are writing and will take you a lot longer to finish your copy.

Don’t hold yourself back when inspiration strikes. Instead, bore full strength ahead typing out your content, mistakes and all. You’ll have plenty of time to edit your work after you have finished your inspirational write.

Well, I really hope this article helps you to learn how to find inspiration in your daily life and work. It has inspired me just to write it. Best of wishes to all your life endeavors.
