There Can Be Only One

Competition is fierce! It surrounds you on all sides waiting for you to make your move. Daring you to show one sign of weakness so it can take advantage and gain the winning stance. You look straight into its eyes noticing even the smallest wince or the slightest change, then you attack because there can be only one, and that one is YOU.

Having this kind of focus in the online world of marketing is essential. You must study your competition to the point where you know how they work, what their plan is, and the probability of what their next tactic will be.

Taking on this huge task can be daunting and time-consuming but it is a task that is of the utmost importance if you want to win and stand out against the many. No one ever said that it was going to be easy to stand in the winner’s circle, but when you are toe to toe with your competitor, there can be only one winner.

Let’s Dig In

So… What is it that makes your competition stand out? How is it that they are getting traffic and you are not? Is there something special they’re doing or saying that gets the attention of the majority? Can we apply some of the same tactics or even better strategies to win the majority over?

Let’s get started by finding out who your competition is. We can use Google to find other businesses like ours in the search results. Once you’ve found other businesses like yours that are ranking high in the list, click on one and start your study. Things to look at include:

  • Site DesignWebsite design has a lot to do with whether a visitor stays or leaves in the first couple of minutes. Does it grab your attention? Is it clean looking and easy to navigate?
  • Headlines – Do the headlines grab your attention and make you want to find out more?
  • Keywords – What keywords are they using and can you find better ones?
  • Call to Action – How are their calls to action placed and are they placed strategically?
  • Content– Study the author’s writing style. Is it captivating? Do you want to read more?

These are some of the things you can do to get a good idea of what your competitors are doing that get them their ranking and traffic. You can also grab some pretty good ideas along the way and build on them putting your own twist into your strategy.

Persistence Gets The Advantage

Steadily and persistently put out relevant and helpful content on your site. Write copy that captivates your audience and keeps them captivated. Use attention-grabbing headlines that first pull in the reader and stimulate their curiosity. The first two sentences of your article, are going to make or break your article. Make sure they explain what your article is about in a way that entices them to want to read on.

Write in a way that makes the reader feel as though he or she were right next you talking face to face. This helps them to relax and to grasp what you are saying even better. Help, help, and help some more. Don’t try to sell all the time. People are smart, they can instinctively tell if you are trying to help them or just sell them something. Find problems you can solve.

You’re Winning The Battle

You’re winning the battle with your competition depends on your unwavering focus and strict attention to detail. It may seem at times that you are losing the battle but be persistent and consistent in your efforts. Believe in yourself even when others do not. Get inspiration from other authors and content writers.

Keep your head up and drive on. Show the world what you’re made of and YOU will prevail because…

There can be only one YOU – YOU WIN!
